Dahi Handi is a significant part of celebrating Janmashtami in India. The festival Janmashtami or Gokulashtami is celebrated in reverence of the birth of Lord Krishna . Dahi Handi is celebrated to symbolize the pranks played by Lord Krishna one of them being building human pyramids to access the pots of butter in the houses of the village He lived in.
